In 1997 Mariann and Robert Griffith began providing prepared meals to customers and HomeStyle Direct was born. Their journey began in their home where they learned that by preparing meals a month in advance, they saved their family invaluable time and money. After this, they decided to bring their prepared meals to others so customers could also save time and money.
Medicaid recipients can receive fruit and powdered milk, but the customer must specify that they would like these items as a part of their breakfast meal.
Also available are meal replacement shakes. A sample of their wide meal selections includes an apple cinnamon muffin breakfast, bacon and cheese omelet, American hamburger, beef shepherd's pie, tamales, enchiladas, lasagna, chicken kiev, beef stroganoff, meatloaf, and many more breakfasts and dinners from which to choose.

It has been some time since I tried the prepared meals from HomeStyle Direct, so I didn't post all of the meals I have tried because it appears their menu has changed. I am looking forward to testing out some of their new meals and hope they are more convenient to reheat, and taste better.
Here are some of the new meals I ordered.
Old Fashioned Meatloaf with a Baked Potato and Mixed Vegetables
Beef Tamale with Mexican Rice and Chuck Wagon Vegetables
Mac and Cheese with Mixed Vegetables
Bacon and Cheese Omelet with Hash Browns and a Bagel
Beef Shepherd's Pie
Cheese Enchilada with Corn
Chicken Ala King
Ground Beef Stroganoff
Overall I could say I'm quite happy with the improvement of the HomeStyle Direct meals. There are still some basic flaws, like microwave trays without any compartments, which often leads to uneven heating. One improvement the company made is that you are no longer required to defrost all of the meals, and they can be microwaved from frozen.
I respect HomeStyle Direct for trying to make senior meals at a very low price point. In my opinion, they are not worth more than $5.95, including the ones I gave a "thumbs up" to. The Old Fashioned Meatloaf with a Baked Potato and Mixed Vegetables was far from old-fashioned. It is one of those heavily processed beef patties. However, I thought the Beef Tamale with Mexican Rice and Chuck Wagon Vegetables was good.
Traditionally, a shepherds pie is made with lamb. A cottage pie is made with beef, but that seems to be a mislabeling that's common in this country. I had never seen a Cottage or Shepherds Pie served without mashed potatoes, and I hope to never see one again. Gordon Ramsay would toss the chef from the kitchen for that recipe.
The Cheese Lasagna was good, but very small. Overall, portion sizes were good for the price of these meals, and I'm especially happy with the amount vegetables that came with each meal. I found the Mac and Cheese to be painfully dry and flavorless. I might even say arid. The Cheese Enchilada with Corn with corn was good, and that is a meal you don't see on many prepared meal delivery menus.
The Chicken Ala King was good, and the portion size was plentiful. I also thought the Ground Beef Stroganoff was a good value at $5.95 per meal. The Bacon and Cheese Omelet with Hash Browns and a Bagel might have been the best of the meals I personally purchased and tried from this company.
Some of the heating instructions are incomplete, which can make it difficult for seniors. For example, there are no instructions as to whether someone should remove the bread, or pads of butter that come in the tray.
Most of the meals I tried were bland from lack of seasoning, but I could be fixed with a salt-and-pepper shaker. I would not consider any of these meals gourmet, of high quality, or created with any level of culinary skill. In my opinion, they are an inexpensive solution to feed senior citizens that may not have the means to feed themselves financially, and perhaps slightly better than supermarket TV dinners.

This meal preparation service mainly provides meals to seniors and those too ill to shop and cook for themselves.
Seniors who use Medicaid will find this service does a great deal of the work for them.
Customers with Medicaid do not have to deal with any of the paperwork involved in obtaining meals because they will handle this for them.
Prepared meals are all in individual servings and include a type of starch, vegetable, and a meat. Breakfast meals come with a starch and protein.
Meals can be individualized to meet specific dietary needs, whether for the purpose of healthy eating, or to control a medical condition.
Meals are available in gluten free, sodium controlled, low fat, low calorie, and carbohydrate controlled. An option for monthly meal plans makes planning for dietary restrictions simple.
Customers can even search these meal plans by a favorite ingredient, such as beef, turkey, chicken, or even vegetarian meals.
Meals are completely cooked and then frozen, so that when they arrive it is as simple as heating and eating. However, it is recommended that for best results customers first thaw the meal. They also suggest that after thawing, the meal be taken out of its container and cooked on microwave safe plate. Meals may be cooked in the oven as well.
Currently, this meal service provides meals to residents in the Idaho region and other states through Medicaid. Shipments are sent in a Styrofoam cooler, and dry ice is used to keep food cool and fresh.

HomeStyle Direct Review
My Chef Review. Below you will see some of the products I have tried from this supplier. My review scoring is simple: I give each meal a thumbs up or a thumbs down based on the quality of the meal at the price I paid for it. A thumbs up means I would buy it again at the posted price.
I also take into consideration everything I think would be important to a consumer, including the shipping process, the condition of the goods received, the packaging, and the ease and quality of the reheating process. Below is my HomeStyleDirect review based on the prepared meals I have tried.
